John Huggard is a sought after expert witness in securities cases and a nationally recognized speaker on the topic of variable annuities. John is a retired university professor who taught law and finance courses at North Carolina State University for thirty-two years. He was a member of the University`s Academy of Outstanding Teachers and was named an Alumni Distinguished Professor in 1994. He continues to write and do research at the University on topics that deal with variable annuities.

John is currently the senior member of a Raleigh, North Carolina law firm that was founded in 1975. He is a board certified specialist in estate planning and probate law and limits his practice to consultation in the areas of estate planning and financial litigation. John is the author of several financial magazine articles and books. His two most recent books discuss investing with variable annuities and debunking the myths surrounding variable annuities. John received his undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master`s degree from Duke University.

John retired as a full-time faculty member from North Carolina State University where he taught introductory and advanced courses in law and personal finance for thirty years. John was inducted into the University`s Academy of Outstanding Teachers in 1988 and was named an Alumni Distinguished Professor in 1994.

John is a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). John has also earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) designations. He is the author of several books including two on variable annuities. Additionally, John has had many of his articles published in Financial Planning, Senior Market Advisor, On Wall Street and other similar financial magazines. John has been interviewed or quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Smart Money, USA Today and other financial publications. John was named a North Carolina Super Lawyer by the Charlotte City Magazine in 2007 and was named a Top U.S. Financial Advisor by Consumers` Research Council of America. John regularly lectures to professional groups on variable annuities, investment taxation and financial planning. John received his undergraduate degree (Phi Beta Kappa) and law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master`s degree from Duke University. John served in the Marine Corps in the mid-sixties including service in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy reserves as a captain in 2005.
