Born in Honolulu, Van Arlen grew up in Kansas City, MO. He moved first to San Francisco and later to Toronto to reengineer divisions of Commerce Clearing House (CCH), global publishers of business and tax law information.

After 15 years of leadership experience in the global legal publishing arena, Van Arlen's corporate background rests on a strong foundation. He implemented business models that kept CCH profitable during the transition from print to CD-ROM and online technologies. His models for adapting to change have been adopted throughout many industries and he is known for helping teams and individuals become more focused and productive.

In 2001, along with the Pleinbridge Consulting Group, Van Arlen received the 2001 Worldwide Organizational Development Project Award. He is also a certified facilitator for Developing High Performance Organizations (DHPO).
